As I drove down the long, bumpy road to the h.e.a.r.t. Village for the very first time, I realized that I had no idea why I was there.  Just ten days before the start of the semester, I had been convinced by my good buddy, John Myer, that I should come down and take part in the h.e.a.r.t. experience.  There was this unshakable nervousness deep inside, but it was the type of nervousness when you know something big is about to happen.  And it did.

Early on in my time at h.e.a.r.t., I was confronted with the verse Micah 6:8 and it became the recurring theme in most everything we did.

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

h.e.a.r.t. really helped me see and instilled in me God’s passion and desire for pursuing justice for the poor and the oppressed.  It changed my whole way of thinking and living.

My God gave me the desire in my heart and then He provided an opportunity to pursue that desire.  He’s cool like that.

He’s able to give us dreams and passion and then He provides the opportunity to run after it with all our heart.

One of my good friends and classmates at h.e.a.r.t. was one of the co-founders of an organization called 2 Seconds Or Less.  2 Seconds Or Less works in communities in Zimbabwe to help battle malnutrition, mainly through nutrition gardens.  I was asked to go along on their trip in July and help implement a discipleship program in some of the schools we would be working at.  I was very excited and jumped at the opportunity to go.

On July 3, I had my bags packed and was excited for my first trip out of the country.  I boarded the plane expecting the adventure of a lifetime and it was indeed quite the adventure…
